Canberra’s economy revolves around government, the consultancies and contractors that support it, a strong research and education sector, and a large number of not-for-profits and peak bodies.
Software built for these organisations is judged against standards that many commercial projects never encounter, from accessibility and privacy to records management and security. Getting these right is often a condition of winning or keeping the work.
Accessibility is the clearest example. Government clients and funders increasingly expect digital services to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, and not-for-profits often serve people with disability, older users or those relying on assistive technology. Fixing accessibility after launch is slow and expensive, and some problems are baked so deeply into a design that they can only be solved by rebuilding screens. Building accessibly from the start costs far less and produces better software for every user.
We plan for these requirements from the first workshop. Interfaces are designed for keyboard and screen reader use, data handling is documented clearly, and every decision is recorded so it can be explained to a project board or procurement panel. We deliver Canberra projects remotely, with video workshops, shared boards and fortnightly demos, all on the same time zone as your team.
