How Much Does a Website Cost in Australia in 2026?
Michael Reid8 min read
“How much does a website cost?” is the first question almost every business owner asks us — and the honest answer is it depends. But that’s not very helpful, so here is what actually drives the price and how to budget sensibly.
What affects the cost of a website?
Four things move the price more than anything else:
- Number of unique page designs. A five-page brochure site costs far less than a 40-page site with custom layouts for every service.
- Functionality. Online booking, quote calculators, member areas and CRM integrations all add development time.
- Content. Professional copywriting and photography are often the difference between a site that looks nice and a site that converts.
- E-commerce. Online stores need product setup, payment gateways, shipping rules and extra testing.
Typical website tiers
Starter or brochure website
Best for new businesses and sole traders who need a credible online presence. Usually 3–6 pages built on a refined template with your branding, basic SEO setup and a contact form.
Small business website
The most common choice for established service businesses. Expect a custom design, 8–20 pages, conversion-focused layouts, on-page SEO, analytics and integrations such as booking or CRM.
E-commerce website
Shopify or WooCommerce stores with product catalogues, payment and shipping, email automation and e-commerce SEO. Cost scales with the number of products and custom features.
Custom web application
Portals, marketplaces and bespoke tools that need custom development and ongoing engineering support.
Ongoing costs to budget for
- Domain name — renewed annually.
- Hosting — from budget shared hosting to managed Australian cloud hosting.
- Maintenance — updates, backups and security monitoring keep your investment safe.
- Marketing — a website without traffic is a billboard in the desert. Budget for SEO, ads or both.
How to get the best value
Be wary of very cheap quotes. They often mean a generic template, no SEO and no support after launch — which usually costs more to fix later. Ask every agency:
- Who owns the website, domain and content — and if it’s hosted for me, what does it cost to take it with me if I leave?
- Is SEO setup included?
- What happens after launch if something breaks?
- Is the quote fixed price?
A good website isn’t an expense — it’s your hardest-working salesperson. Judge the cost against the leads it will bring in, not just the upfront price.
How our pricing works at Leafy Digitals
We’ve taken a different approach to the upfront cost. When you subscribe to any of our monthly SEO or social media marketing plans, we design and build your website for $0 upfront — and e-commerce stores too. While you’re subscribed, we host, secure, update and back up the site as part of your plan, and basic logo and brand styling is included in every build.
If you ever cancel your plan and want to keep the website, there’s a simple one-off buyout: $500 for a standard website or $1,000 for an e-commerce store. Once that’s paid, we hand over full ownership, files and access, so you can take it anywhere. No surprises, and no guessing what leaving would cost.
